Review: Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina

Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina

75 East Capitol Drive,Kapitolyo, Pasig City

my sister has been telling me about Silantro since the beginning of the year. i've also read a lot of good reviews of the place and have seen Silantro to be the most loved resto in Pasig from the Booky blog. so for my birthday treat to my family this year, i decided to take them here. we rarely visit this part of town despite us going to church in Robinsons Galleria every week. i was amazed with how the Kapitolyo neighborhood looked like as it is very much like the foodie haven in Maginhawa. several restaurants lined up the streets, mostly i've seen from blog reviews and some fairly new. there was a long line of customers waiting when we got there. the servers took our orders as we wait. the place was small and did not have high chairs for dining toddlers. the long line, the small place and the lack of high chair did not seem to matter as soon as our orders were served. everything and i mean everything was mouth watering. the servings was big enough for 4 or more and the food was just a delight with every bite. all hands up to Silantro and crew.

Here's an honest review of our orders.

Beef Nachos - PHP180

this seemed to be the crowd favorite. as we wait we've noticed every table seem to have ordered the nachos. up until now, 5 days after we've dined in, my mom still has not stopped raving about this. and that is saying something - my mom is a very good cook and it takes really good food to impress her. you can see from the picture how hefty the serving was. and the taste, i don't even know how to begin describing the taste. a combination of the crispy nachos, topped with several kinds of cheese, veggies and cilantro, and beef - not just beef shreds but actual beef chunks. but wait there's more, there's a surprise hidden beneath the layers - beef tendons! gaaah happy birthday to me! definitely the best tasting beef nachos ever. i don't think any other nachos would be able to top this - EVER!

Calliente Wings - PHP180

6 sweet and spicy chicken wings for only PHP180. despite the sauce the wings was still crispy. this dish reminded me of something similar that i can cook - Korean Chicken, and my recipe comes very close to this. the wings was good but everything else was better. this was just upstaged by everything else.

Salpicado - PHP160

their take on salpicao. again you see from the picture how hefty the serving was compared to how other restos serves salpicao. this was also extremely good. tender, garlicky, buttery. i'm running out of words to describe these amazing treats.

Lucha Tachos Completo (Triple choice of meat) in soft or hard shell - PHP110

they've got several meat choices for topping. i think i chose beef, chicken and lengua in soft taco shells. i did not get to enjoy this much as i was already so preoccupied with bonchie and the other orders. Von pretty much ate most of this and he said this was good and was what he enjoyed the most. i'd be sure to experience and reevaluate this on our next visit.

Silantro's Paella Fajita Mix - PHP250

i ordered 2 of this. as i saw this being served to other tables, we initially thought it was just good for 2 hence the 2nd order. however, 4 hungry adults and a toddler had a hard time finishing one. we had to take the 2nd order home. i loved this paella. it tasted authentic and loved the different seafood it was topped with. definitely very filling and satisfactory.

aside from the good food what impressed me most was how cheap our total bill was. we ordered a lot and i was expecting to pay around 3k. was i surprised to see the total amount on our bill - only about PHP1300! if not for the 2nd order of the paella, we would've gone just a little above 1k. i left a PHP100 tip to the staff and everyone was very thankful. turned out that the total amount on the bill does not exclude service charge. the staff were all very accommodating and friendly and they deserve extra for their good service. clap clap to the owners of this business - definitely a good value for money! the next time i am within the area, Silantro would definitely be my go to place.

PS: i heard they are about to open a branch in UP town center. i hope they get to maintain the food quality and level of service. if they do, we'd definitely be regular customers! can't wait for the opening of this branch.
