Review: Senju Japanese Restaurant
Senju - Edsa Shangri-La
Edsa Shangri-La, 1 Garden Way, Ortigas, Mandaluyong City
thrice a year our big boss from the US comes to town and visits our team here in the PH. whenever he is in town he gets to take us out for dinner and we usually go to fine dining restaurants on his last night. this quarter, i made reservations to Senju, an authentic Japanese restaurant at the Edsa Shang. as per zomato.com approx price for 2 is at PHP4500. since we are a big group of 10, i reserved a private room with a consumable amount of a whopping 14k.
Overall Satisfaction: 3/5
Promoter Score: 7/10
I love Japanese food hence I liked dining in Senju. But for the price, I don't think its worth it. The food pretty much tasted like any normal Japanese fast food. It was good but too expensive. I think what we paid for was the use of the fancy chinaware. except for the rolls & sushi, i don't think their menu was built for sharing. here's my review of the dishes I've tasted.
Crazy Maki - PHP840
Maki is a staple order whenever I eat Japanese. Senju's Crazy Maki was indeed explosive. it's prawn tempura with cucumbers, crabstick, egg and salmon skin rolled in sticky rice and topped with something crunchy sliced into 10 bite sized pieces. I'd admit that this was one of the best tasting maki I've tasted but still priced a little too much at PHP840.
Yaki niku jyu - PHP950
In a nutshell, its beef misono served in a fancy jewelry box. Don't get me wrong, it was good. the beef was tasty and tender but still nothing so special that i can say it wasn't so far from Tokyo Tokyo's beef misono. :P
Wafu Steak - PHP1200
Their signature US rib eye steak in sesame sauce. it tasted like what it is, an expensive steak. tender and tasty with all those fatty flavors. I couldn't help but compare to Stone Grill's House of Wagyu steak but this wouldn't even come to a close third. The Wafu Steak was also served as it is and does not come with anything else. No rice, sides, salad, potato - nadaa!
Shangri-La's Iced Tea
that iced tea right there was the best. fruity and sweet. it taste like its worth a thousand calories. i don't know how much Senju charges for it but i heard this was the same iced tea the Shang serves to hotel customers.
Overall, it was a good dining experience given you have money to spend on normal tasting food. However, for the average middle class Juan or Maria like me i think we're better off spending our hard earned moolahs someplace where we can get more for so much less.
