Teach them young they said. I planned to do just that even before Bonchie started understanding the things around him. Reading books was always something I loved doing. To me reading is a great source of learning, stimulates the mind and expands the vocabulary. They said I started reading in a corner with my high pitched voice when I was 2. I bought Bonchie his 1st book before he was 1. This 1st book was a children's bible. He never really appreciated it much until he turned 1 when he received several books for his birthday. He does not appreciate the stories yet but he loves looking at the pictures. As of now, @1y8mos he has already learned to recognize the pictures, say the names of some of them and would make us quiz him on what animals/food/things were in the picture and he would gladly exclaim "de!" (There!).
He usually ends up in the bed with all the books scattered around him while he curiously looks at the pictures one by one. There even came a point that we've been at a book for a long while, he doesn't want to stop looking at the pages, he kept asking us to tell him which animal is which over and over and over that I just had to hide the book under the pillow while he was distracted.
Praying on the animals?
I'm proud and happy enough as it is that Bonchie is more introduced to books than gadgets, but theres more. You see all the mess he makes whenever he reads his books? He also knows how to put them all back in the shelf when he's done. He does this with his toys too! Patience and persistence really does pay off. When i started teaching him to pack up his toys, he merely looked at me and shrugged me off. But doing so every chance i get, he learned to understand what i meant and knew what to do. Proud momma right here! Below is a video cap of my little boy carefully packing up. Yup, thats my boy right "de!"
