Back in the saddle! Not!
My folding bike swifty in stacie's trunk |
Couple of months after the downpour of overloaded work, I've finally gotten a handle on my schedule and had gotten over the need to extend my working hours. Been feeling so guilty for not having time to workout and leaving the bike untouched for some time so I took my bike out of storage and scheduled a ride after work. I was determined. However if bad luck would've had it the bike didn't want to cooperate. Being left untouched for a couple of months, swifty was rusty and may need oiling as I was not able "unfold" it. It was just too damn tight. The wheel set also lacked the required air. Since I was all geared up, I decided to just go for a jog (which I've always been weak at) and psyched myself to complete at least 3km around the UP oval. Off to some sweat I go.
Geared up with no bike - so go run! |
Towards the start, my inner will was having a battle to turn back or to push through? Can I do this? I can't, can I? But I resolved to somehow make it round the oval. Quarter of the way through, I got my rhythm. I was swaying to the cardio workout beat of my Spotify playlist. Until three quarters to full circle, I was panting. My vision was blurring. The leg bones between my knees and my feet felt like it was about to crack. And most of all, I needed to pee!!!
I changed my pace from walk, jog, jog, jog to walk, jog, walk, walk. My will was having another battle - to go for another round or to call it a day. I decided to just walk by the car, take a sip and decide from there. 10 meters away from the car, as if an answered prayer, a blessing from heaven, the sky darkened and the rain started to pour. Harhar!
Got in for cover. Settled down and guiltlessly drove away. Next time I'd do better. Next time.
