healthier & fitter lifestyle pt 2: Healthy Diet Delivery Service Review
It's Friday, I've just finished my lunch from Healthy Diet Delivery service which is my 2nd to the last meal from them. I think it is now safe to write a review as my last meal for the day is a pack of Quaker Oats oatmeal, so waiting for me to finish that wouldn't really matter that much anymore.
I've already blogged about the back story on why I started out on this diet and what I was doing while on the program. This post will solely focus on my experience with HDD's food and service. So as I was doing my research on where to sign up to, I quickly learned that amidst the large number of this food delivery service not everyone is available to cater to my location. After doing a lot of googling, I've shortlisted names and sent them an FB message to inquire. I tried reaching out to the "more popular" ones like Diet Diva, Fit Kitchen PH, Lunchbox Diet, Diet Buddy, etc., but it's always either they don't deliver to our place, they have shipping fee of a whopping 80PHP A DAY (400/week), or they don't entertain inquiries via FB.
Then I stumbled upon Healthy Diet Delivery. Just like the others, they prefer handling inquiries via text too. However, they were very accommodating and they entertained all my queries via FB. I wasn't really that interested in them at first because when I looked at their menu for the week, first meal is cheese pimiento on wheat bread which isn't really that enticing to me. However, they had good customer service, they only cost 1800/week for 5 meals a day, and they ship to the far away land of SuperNova for free. Deal closed. I only had to email to them proof of my payment and it was set.
I signed up for the week of Feb 23-27, and here's their set menu for the week.
MONDAY: I've scheduled my delivery to be in the AM because I start my breakfast in the PM. They also have night before deliveries for those with a normal life unlike me. So Monday morning, the delivery Kuya came and he was very pleasant. Courteous and polite. Nice.
My first peek inside the brown bag and my first impression is... "Eto na un? Wow ha..." Very sarcastically of course. Von was also curious and excited and upon seeing my meal he was like... "Exciting....". Sarcastically too. Here's how my Monday meal looked liked as posted by Healthy Diet Delivery in their FB.
Looked appetizing right? But it didn't quite look like that in real life. I didn't get the chance to take a photo of my Monday meal but resolved to take photos of the next days.
THE VERDICT: Overall - it was good. Their cheese pimiento was homemade, the Sole was not really that remember-able but it was fine, the pork humba was delish. The brown rice though may take some getting used too, but it is acceptable specially with viands with a very good sauce. This 3 meals was actually able to get me through the day with a 7km bike ride as a workout.
TUESDAY: Same delivery Kuya, same pleasant good mornings. Complete pics of the days food. I did not follow the suggested order of eating the meals as I swapped whats for lunch with dinner and vice versa as I felt I needed the "heavier" food during lunch time while I am active instead of dinner wherein I'll just sleep right after.
THE VERDICT: 1st food that I didn't really like is the Garlic Tuyo Brown Rice, I just didn't find the "Tuyo" taste that I was expecting. The Korean Beef Stew though, was very good. Beef was tender and the sauce was yummy without the extended artificial taste. The Caesar Salad is also superb, the dressing was homemade and not the ready made grocery store dressing. I was also surprised that the wheat crackers taste good, kudos to Rebisco for this very tasty "not supposed to be tasty" snack!
WEDNESDAY: Same delivery Kuya now with additional small talk. Forgot to take a pic of my dinner of Peppered Fish but again its not that memorable either.
THE VERDICT: The 3 cheese panizza was very yummy. One of my faves from the bunch. The chicken satay is a little to bland, I know they're supposed to be bland, but the blandness is a little too much.
THURSDAY: Same delivery Kuya now bearing gifts for Bonchie. I guess he had an extra "Inipit" which is part of the days menu so he gave it to Bonchie. (Yes, Bonchie was always with me when we receive the food bags in the morning, it's our short paaraw time) Forgot breakfast and snacks pics this time.
THE VERDICT: Breakfast was supposedly Vegetable Frittata which was good. I liked that it had Shitake Mushrooms in them. The Roast Pork was... meehhh. Just right I guess. The Beef Steak was again delish. Another one my favorites!
FRIDAY: Same delivery Kuya this time with a message to order again the next week. :)
THE VERDICT: The Chicken Gyro is another favorite. The sauce is very delicious. The Gyro was supposedly for lunch but I ate it at breakfast and moved the rest of the meals up, while the oatmeal will be my dinner. The Sardines was so not enough. Only 2 small slices of fish, I was only able to eat half of my rice.
Weight check: 1kg down
Overall, Healthy Diet Delivery can be very well recommended to people who would want to try. I've said this in my previous blog, the food portions are shockingly small which may really be just what is needed by the body and its always surprising how the small portions are enough for the day. Not all the food have super delicious taste but hey, we're dieting, we're eating healthy! We are not really supposed to have that super tasty food loaded with salt and preservatives.
Is it a good value for money? I am not so sure about this yet. Mainly because I know the prices of raw and wet goods, and I know the small portions I ate ain't worth 1800. But the service, the preparations and the effortless-ness on my part somewhat makes it OK.
So did I sign up again for next week as the delivery Kuya asked? No, I did not. Early within the week I've seen other services who delivers to us for free with more variety in their menu. I saw Healthy Diet Delivery's menu for next week and it's mostly the same brown rice and ulam combo. I want more alternatives. Like I want pasta, noodles, sandwiches, wraps, etc., instead of the everyday brown rice (which mind you, can be painful to the taste buds).
So yes, I will be signing up for another 1200 calorie meal plan next week but this time with Delicious Diet PH. Same price but with more variety in the menu. I am looking forward to more weight loss and yummier meals!
